Term 1
The theme this year in the Port Kembla PS Living Classroom has been all about new growth. With a new group of students joining the Garden Ambassadors, the garden has undergone an amazing transformation. The huge growth of past summer crops spilling over the pathways and entranceway was soon turned into a ‘no dig’ garden, building materials for the autumn vegetable and herb planting. The ‘kids teaching kids’ program (where Kindergarten was working with the Garden Ambassadors) has now evolved into lunchtime gardening with Year 1. Our Garden Ambassadors have been working overtime to keep up with the enthusiasm of the little green thumbs. More recently, we had a visit from a small but powerful group of Permaculture students from 5 Islands Secondary College
who came to help with the bigger maintenance tasks. It is great to have these students connected to the school and it provides pathways for the Garden Ambassadors to visit the college’s hospitality classes.
